Ottawa County Stop Child Abuse and Neglect Council (SCAN)

The Ottawa County SCAN Council is a community based effort to prevent child abuse and neglect in Ottawa County. SCAN helps to coordinate child abuse prevention efforts to ensure we are working together as a community to protect children. Pathways, MI is the designated Michigan Children’s Trust Fund Local Child Abuse and Neglect Council for Ottawa County.
SCAN is a member of the West Michigan Regional Child Maltreatment Team. As a region As a region, we have been working on a strategic plan to prevent child maltreatment. We will soon be brining ideas to the community. DOWNLOAD the DRAFT West Michigan Regional Child Maltreatment Plan.
April was Child Abuse Prevention Awareness (CAP) Month. Last year there were 296 confirmed cases of child abuse and neglect in Ottawa County! In order to raise awareness, SCAN has planted four “Pinwheel for Prevention” gardens through out Ottawa County.
To celebrate Pathways, MI and the Ottawa County Stop Child Abuse and Neglect Council participated in the national Pinwheels for Prevention Campaign.
There were two Indoor Pinwheel Gardens hosted by Love, INC Allendale and the Allendale Township Offices and three Outdoor Pinwheel Gardens hosted by the Grand Haven State Police Post, Westshore Mall in Holland, and Fairway Christian Reformed Church in Jenison.
